Sea Gypsy's Survivor Island Game

Basecamp looking at Sibu.JPG (374272 bytes)

Our Survivor Island Game was invented, by us wearing our sadistic hats, for Corporate Teambuilding. However it has occurred to us that older children would love to play. So we welcome any schools or clubs as well. We can make it as difficult or as easy as anyone would like and trip organisers are welcome to get involved with the clue making in order to cover any subjects important to your staff, students or members.

We use an uninhabited island, two thirds of which is relatively flat with a large beach and one third a large steep hill joined by a small ridge of jagged rocks. The rocks are useful for line fishing.

The island can be circumnavigated by foot, with a good pair of trainers, and is covered in coconut palms and dense shrubs. It is surrounded by shallow waters and coral. During low tide a spit connects it to another even smaller island.
Driftwood, old fishing nets, rope, plastic buoys and other useful materials can be found washed up on shore for scavengers in search of both building and fire material.

How does the Survivor Island Game work?
We can't tell you...it would spoil all the fun. Since we have to write something you can believe what you like about what is written below! For the game to work really well groups should arrive by 2pm on the preceding day for teambuilding games to set the mood and some survivor training by our resident experts.
Teams are then given a series of tasks
to complete such as:

Chopping logs.JPG (738598 bytes)
  • Build a shelter
  • Light a fire
  • Find food
  • Cook lunch

  • Map reading with a compass
  • Clue solving
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Team games

Once all the tasks have been completed & judged the camp is cleaned up and the survivors are taken back to Sea Gypsy for a well earned drink and a nice shower. The debriefing is up to the organiser, we can be extremely serious and detailed, also giving teams a chance to discuss their view of the day and what they gained from it. Some groups like the Sea Gypsy Team to give a detailed appraisement of each team and award prizes, some groups simply have a chat over a drink before heading for the party, we leave it entirely up to the organiser. The whole day is then topped off with an excellent BBQ.
